It Follows: Movie Review
So, hadn't even heard of this little gem until I got on RottenTomatoes last night. If I had cable or paid attention to any kind of mainstream media, I might have known. Alas, off the grid is the way to go--or at least not paying the people that create the grid.
This movie is fantastic. The premise is unbelievably scary; I'm shocked that it hasn't been done before.
I'll break it down without any spoilers. Basically, there is this thing that follows you. It walks, and it walks slowly, but it never, ever stops walking. Why does it start following you? Well, it's kind of like the most lethal STD ever. If you have sex with someone that it is already following, you catch it, and it comes after you. How do you get it to stop? Gotta pass it like the clap.
Here's the thing, though. Even if you pass it on, if it gets a hold of the person you passed it to, and kills them, guess who it starts following next? Yeah. You. The STD that doesn't quit giving.
The originality in this film is more than a breath of fresh air; it's like stepping out into an arctic tundra. No cheap thrills, no gross out blood and guts, just an impending doom that there is nothing you can do to stop what's coming for you.
Death.
It's coming. Always. And eventually, it'll find you.
Go see the damn movie.
